The 'Hadrian Vase' is one of the most detailed of Sasha's ceramics yet. Expressively hand-painted with a washy watercolour feel, this vase celebrates queer love.
On the vase are portraits of lovers Hadrian and Antinous. Sasha has added Adonis in the text and Adonis's arrow to allude to the idea she believes that there were more romantic queer love stories than just Hadrian and Antinous. Referencing classical art but in a vibrant, colour palette to give a contemporary feel, this decorative vase is playful and joyful. Techniques of making include sgraffito, mixed glazes and subtractive methods.
